Author’s Note: Every Saturday, I share my art practice over the past 7 days. I'm fascinated by artistic practice – it's not just about creating art but the entire process. From influences and ideas to materials and skills, each artist's unique approach shapes their work, making it more than a finished piece. Just imagine having a weekly update from your favourite living artist. How cool would that be?
If this piece is too long for email, you can read it here in Substack. Or download the app.
This week…
I sold an art print!
I checked my email this morning and got an eBay notification that I sold one of my Hitchcock A4 prints! I’m so chuffed!
Of course, I’m going to ask you if you’d like to buy one, you can here.
I got 300k views of my Google Maps Photos
One of my impulse actions last year was uploading my art to places in Google Maps. Now my photos have been viewed 300,000 times. Maybe I will carry this on in the future and direct people to my new website when it launches!
My Creative Images Mag and Virtual Exhibition
I paid £15 to enter my submission to the My Creative Images magazine and virtual exhibit. I had a little bit more discernment this week, as it looks more polished than the other art magazines that I have applied to.
Creating a structure around my work
I've been collaborating with
to establish a framework for my art business and personal life. The annual coaching course starts in September, and I'm aiming to get organised before it begins. One challenge I face is managing my tasks, as they are scattered across different platforms like emails, paper notes, and Apple Notes, making my mental space feel cluttered. To address this, I've started using an app called Gqueues. It acts as a centralised inbox for my tasks. For instance, if I receive an email that requires a response but can't address it immediately, I forward it to my Gqueues inbox to handle later. This setup helps me capture tasks in one place, whether they are from emails or handwritten notes.
This week, I'm figuring out the best way to utilise Gqueues. I plan to continue developing this system, including a specific task inbox for my 2025 art exhibition, which I'll elaborate on as the details become clearer. I want to get to a stage where I have multiple ‘task inboxes’ that I can use, with the main inbox where I can have a mind dump, that can be sorted into folders at a later date.
If you want to give Gqueues a go, click this link for a 2-week free trial.
Let us cordially converse in the comments
How are you doing? Please don’t give me a reflexive answer. Especially, if you’re English, don’t say “Not too bad”.
What have you been up to this week in getting your work out there, or being creative in your own way?
Do you reflect on your creative practice? If so, what do you do? If not, why not?
Please forward this to a friend. It only takes 3.5 seconds. Making this one took a lot longer to write.
