Before we begin. If you missed my last post, it’s here:
Author’s Note: Every Saturday, I share my art practice over the past 7 days. I'm fascinated by artistic practice – it's not just about creating art but the entire process. From influences and ideas to materials and skills, each artist's unique approach shapes their work, making it more than a finished piece. Just imagine having a weekly update from your favourite living artist. How cool would that be?

Lessons from the Crypt gallery exhibition
So, It’s been a slow week but I’ve learned a valuable lesson along the way. Maybe quite a trivial lesson but those often have the biggest impact in our lives.
The lesson was around missing details and unconsciously delaying projects! I got accepted to exhibit at the Crypt Gallery about 3/4 weeks ago and it was my understanding that the full amount had to be paid upon booking. So with that in mind, I wanted to discuss with my curator, Maria, about the possibility of her Gallery paying for it and I could crowdfund to cover the costs thereafter.
What came to light this week was it only costs £250 to book the venue! So I could’ve booked that right away, but now it’s been nearly a month and the booking isn’t officially secured. Then I have until six months before the exhibition to pay the balance.
A boring lesson? Maybe. But it’s an essential lesson in being diligent and present when reading the details! This could’ve easily carried on for another month without me knowing about the £250 deposit!
I’ve also realised how uncomfortable I felt working on my exhibition timeline this week. I get mental blocks thinking about what I’m going to do over the year. I’m sure I’ll become unstuck from the wisdom of
🙏 more on this next week.Even 15 minutes of painting time is blissful
I dropped off a few bits at my art studio this week and had the urge to add to this painting I started about 6 weeks ago. The painting isn’t part of Memento vivere, (maybe it will be? Who knows?) I realised that I enjoy painting for the sake of it, as well painting for a specific purpose (for an exhibition).
What I will do moving forward is have a painting “for fun” on the go whilst working on other pieces. I like to see it as a visual version of a band jamming, you don’t know what will come from it and there’s no agenda.
I have 12 paintings to paint for Memento vivere and the self-imposed deadline is June 2025. I’d like to give me some space to focus on promotional aspects of the exhibition thereafter. I’ll be down the studio on a regular basis very soon to paint.
I stuck some photos prints on there just because.
That is all for this week!
Check out the audio version of this for extra thoughts whilst I walk my dog, Bruno.
Thanks for reading.
Have a great week!
